Arrived today in Des Moine and wow even with a layover no delayed flights or anything everything went very smooth. I had been wondering if that would ever be possible.
The funny thing was last year this elderly gentleman was sent to pick me up and in searching for some connection to make with me he found out that I am from Utah. He at one time had a cabin in park city (which they no longer own). And then he went on to ask if I was a Mormon, to which I replied yes. He then proceeded to tell me about a trip that he and his wife too to New York and they happen to see the play The Book of Mormon. I really wasn't sure how to respond to someone telling me about going and funding something that is mocking my religion, and he really enjoyed it. I cannot remember what I said to him but I could sense that he was meaning well and wanting to be friendly so I'm sureu response was kind.
So this year that same gentleman that was sent to pick me up from the airport last year was there ready to take me to the hotel this year (awesome thing #1 to happen today)
After arriving i checked into my room only to find that my roommate has a friend here at the meet and wants to change rooms. (Awesome thing #2 today). I agree to the room change and head to the track to do my pre-meet workout. Everything felt great today, even though I kicked my ankle and drew a little blood. I guess my spikes are very sharp.
Upon returning to the meet I discovered that dinner for the athletes was at the VIP area at the track that I had just left. However I did not run for the bus to the stadium because I have had that "dinner" before. The last few years there was only once that I arrived at the VIP area before the food was taken away and all they had was a Philly cheese stake sandwich and beer. Awesome "dinner" right. So knowing what was at the track I decided to be adventurous and eat somewhere around the hotel. This is what greeted me on my quest for a real dinner...
